Enosburg trails closed…
The trails will re-open on December 16th for winter riding. The trails at this point will be informally groomed/packed using snowmobiles to make winter ATV riding easier.
Volunteer projects
Both of the volunteer projects mentioned in the last newsletter (the Martell Family Home and the purchasing of the Highgate Rescue Sled) have been put on hold for now. The Martell Family Home contact did not return our calls/emails and the sled purchase is to possibly be handled differently.
We will revisit the sled purchase after the next meeting in February and a volunteer project will be still something to do, but not until Spring. The Enosburg Athletic Fields are going to need some manual labor at that time and they have very graciously welcomed the Club and use of ATV’s on town roads. I personally think everyone wins with this!
October 18th Canada Ride
On Saturday, October 18th, NCAA went on a ride in Quebec. About 15 machines and more people rode from Cowansville to Granby, stopping for lunch at a popular restaurant that welcomes ATV riders. Trails were in good condition, not dust and little mud. There were, however, several water crossings, including a river on the ride home. We rode a total of 40 miles and everybody had a good time. We had many first timers on this ride and they said they couldn’t wait to go back.
October 10th VASA meeting
VASA is looking into hiring a lobbyist to push the ATV agenda. VASA needs to get into Montpelier or there will be many roadblocks.
The lobbyist will be working on State land access, the Rail Trails, etc.
VASA has said the membership fee should not increase due to the hiring of a lobbyist. They have the money set aside for this in the VASA account.
E-mail addresses
We have received quite a few new e-mail addresses from members. Thank you to all who have sent them in. If you would like to receive your newsletter by e-mail instead of the Postal Service, send your e-mail address to Andy or Claire and we will get it out to you.
Please keep the e-mail addresses coming!!!!
January 4th Ride
The next scheduled ride is on Sunday, January 4, 2004 to Cowansville, Quebec. We will be meeting at the Swanton McDonald’s at 7:30, leaving at 7:45 sharp. We are planning an all day ATV ride on groomed trails.
We’ll be taking advantage of the winter only trails that take us through woods, meadows, covered bridges and rail trails.
Expected mileage is 80-100 miles. The miles rack up quickly on smooth trails.
We will stop at restaurants along the trail. One definite stop will be for lunch and others as needed.
The ride will go on unless it is raining. In the event of extreme cold, the group will decide at McDonald’s whether to brave it. In the event of heavy snows, the ride will go on. The more snow the better.
Requirements: Registration, liability insurance on the machine, helmet, trail pass (purchased that day), rear-view mirror, driver’s license-16 year old minimum driver. Special rules apply for riding double.
Contact Brian Douglas at 868-9991 if you have questions or want to RSVP (helpful in planning the day).
Next meeting…
February 6, 2004 should be the next meeting at the Abbey after the holiday break. There are no meetings for the months of December and January. We will keep you updated with monthly newsletters even though there will not be meetings.
Beware…
We received word from some of our Milton members that the Town of Milton now has Law Enforcement Officers patrolling existing ATV trails in and around the area of Adelphia. They are patrolling on ATV’s. The fine for getting caught is $300. Please stay out of that area!
Reminder
On October 17th I sent a few of the members a VASA Registration missing information sheet. I am still waiting to hear back from some of you. The information I requested was things like, VASA sticker#, plate number or VIN #.
Please if you have not sent this back to me (Claire), please do. You can mail it or e-mail it. I need to get this information into VASA.
Thanks!
