March Newsletter

Welcome to another edition of the NCAA-INC newsletter. The meeting was held at the Abbey Rest in Sheldon as usual earlier this month. We had about 50 people show up to show support for the club. There have been about 25 members either renew memberships or acquired their first one. This is a long way off of the 150 members that we had last year. We are looking forward to gaining even more members in the coming months and hope to push our membership to over 200 members by spring.

Nominations were taken and accepted for the Board of Director positions for the 2003-2004 year. Motions were made to keep Jerry Wolfenbarger and Andy King in place as President and Vice President. A nomination was made to invite Claire Willette on board as the new secretary. All motions were passed by a majority of the members present. If there are no other nominations in April the board will stand and Claire will become our Secretary.

Andy spoke in reference to the news story ran on Channel 3 (WCAX) last week. There was a major story discussing the ATV issue in Franklin County. Unfortunately Channel 3 got some footage of some individuals riding ATV’s down Rt 7 at high speeds. It has come to my attention by good sources that none of these individuals were members of either NCAA-INC or VASA. I would once again like to ask all of you to help educate people, invite them to meetings. Help us spread the word on what we are trying to do as a responsible, law-abiding club. We have all worked to hard to let “rebel riders” cast a dark cloud over what we have accomplished in the past year.

I would assume that all of you got your invitations to the VASA annual meeting in April. I look forward to seeing a big turn out for NCAA-INC. Please let me know if you did not get information or if you need anything else. There are already at least 10 individuals planning on attending. Lets make a strong showing so our votes count. This is where you have a chance to affect what happens at the VASA level.

Please get a chance and get to a computer and take a look at our new and improved web page. Big thanks to Josh Lanphear, for all the hard work that he has put into it over the past few weeks. We are already well over 1300 hits in only 3 weeks. The reviews have been nothing short of spectacular. Members like Josh are what make this club really work. Stop by www.ncaa-inc.com

We are planning a final winter ride to Canada on the 22nd of March. Departure will be from McDonalds in Swanton at 8:00 am on Saturday. The cost is 25CN for a day pass or 100CN for a year pass. Liability insurance, registration is required. If you are riding double you must have the seat on the back and the “fender protectors” for the passenger. Six of us went last weekend and logged over 90 miles. Everybody had a great time. The system that Canada has for ATV use is nothing short of incredible. Plenty of fuel stops, food, etc….

The next meeting is scheduled for Friday April 4, 2003 at the Abbey Rest. in Sheldon. Votes will be cast for Club officers. We will also be selecting committees to help with the towns that have passed ordinances allowing ATV use on the Class III and Class IV roads. I am hoping that we will be able to get at least 3 club members from each of those towns to sit on a committee. My thoughts are that with 3 different members at least one member will be able to make the select board meetings at least once a month. This will allow us to quickly answer any questions or help resolve any problems that may come up.

T-Shirts, Hats, and bumper stickers will be available for sale by the April meeting. Shirts will be $14 - $16 depending on size. Hats will be $15. The members present at the March meeting were able to look at the new logo and a shirt designed by a Vermont company. Prices seemed reasonable so the shirts have been ordered. Please show support for your club and wear them with pride.

As a reminder, if you do not renew you will not get a newsletter in the mail or via e-mail. Please ensure that you are informed and renew your membership at either the meetings or any of our supporters. Be sure to bring your registration with VIN number and Plate Number. Still only $35 per year for both VASA and NCAA-INC
